Description
This 1-day course is designed to refresh and update the knowledge learners gained on the Introduction to Phlebotomy Practices & Techniques course. It allows learners to skip the first day of the course, having a brief refresher of the theory side of phlebotomy, before moving straight onto the practical assessment.
The Introduction to Phlebotomy Practices & Techniques award is valid for 2 years before it needs to be refreshed.
You can attend a refresher course at any of our locations. Just select a location/date above to book online, or contact us on 01332 380 777 to book over the phone.
This refresher course is for learners who have previously attended our Introduction to Phlebotomy Practices & Techniques course, and need to have their skills topped-up or refreshed. You can also attend this course if you have attended any other Phlebotomy training course, or have performed phlebotomy in the past, and need to have your previous knowledge recognised and accredited by a nationally recognised awarding body.
By completing the pre-assessment test, we will be able to get an idea of which areas need refreshing. Each learner will then get one-to-one time with the course assessor to go over these areas, ensuring they are able to get 40 out of 40 before the end of the day.
In this way, we make sure that we are not wasting time going over old ground, but we are instead giving you a bespoke learning experience, tailored to your specific needs.
In the afternoon, learners will then practice for and complete their final practical assessment, using our advanced training equipment.
By doing this, learners will complete the 3 units of the original Introduction to Phlebotomy Practices & Techniques course, including:
- Unit 1: Understanding the Role of the Phlebotomist;
- Unit 2: Understanding Phlebotomy Practices and Techniques;
- Unit 3: Applying Basic Phlebotomy Practices and Techniques
These units,and the contents of the course have been developed in line with the CH132 National Occupational Standard for Obtaining Venous Blood Samples, (written by ‘Skills for Health’ for the NHS).
You will receive your certificate within 2-3 weeks following completion of the course. We can also issue attendance certificates if required for employers or interviews.
Once again, the certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of the course, at which point you may feel you need to take another refresher course, or you may have accumulated enough day-to-day experience to be confident with your own self-development.
To attend this course, learners must pass a pre-assessment, which is a test comprising 40 questions with a mixture of long and short answers. This test is sent to you when you book onto the course via email and must be completed at least 2 weeks before the course commences. It shows that you have the pre-requisite knowledge to attend this refresher course. Learners will have access to our course handbook to help you with the test.
You must pass this test with a score of 80% (32 out of 40) to be accepted onto the course. Otherwise, you will need to complete the full Introduction to Phlebotomy Practices & Techniques course from day 1. If you do not pass the test and choose to upgrade to the full course, there will be an extra charge of £150 (£100 to make up the difference in the two courses, plus a £50 admin fee), so you should be fairly confident in your abilities before you opt for the refresher course. If you are unsure, please feel free to discuss your options with our team by calling 01332 380 777, or using our contact us page to get in touch.
If you feel you may need extra help to complete this pre-assessment, because of a learning or physical disability, you can let us know in the booking form, and we will be able to put reasonable adjustments in place. See our Access to Fair Assessment Policy for more details.
You will be supplied with a course handbook to keep and refer to and will have full access to advice and guidance from your assessor and from our team.
We will also include you on our contact list of ex-students and will make sure you are kept informed whenever there are changes in national standards, legislation or good practice.
Completing this course will also enable you to continue onto our Advanced Techniques and Live Bloods courses.
Simply select the Location / Date you would like to attend on the dropdown menu at the top of this page, then click on the ‘Add to Cart’ button. You will be taken to the check out where you can fill in a few details, and pay using your credit/debit card or Paypal account. Alternatively, you can call the office on 01332 380777 and we can book this over the phone, all payment receipts will be sent to your email address.
Within one working day, you will receive a confirmation email confirming your place on the course and the pre-assessment test will follow in a separate email.
